Black Waters

I look upon black waters.
Once they flowed with hope and peace.
Now they only carry death,
Swallowing up the sun’s light.
Not a glimmer of reflection:
The last sailor is long gone.
The waves bring in the stench:
It decays all life within sight.
I look upon black waters.
Not a seagull in the air,
Only bones left by the nightly tide.
I remember days ago,
She would come out of the clear waters.
Children playing along the shore.
Now I only see blackness,
And no one can change it.
Only I….
